Swelling of the Sebaceous Glands in Babies

In the first weeks and months, something appears on your baby's skin that may unsettle you: small swellings, blocked sebaceous glands, tiny nodules, or yellowish crusts on the delicate skin. Medically this is usually harmless — neonatal acne, milia, grease kernels, or cradle cap, depending on how it manifests. The paediatrician will tell you it goes away on its own. And in most cases they are right.

But if you want to look deeper — not with fear, but with curiosity — a level opens up that goes beyond hormones and sebum production. For the skin is the organ with which a person comes into contact with the world. It is boundary and contact surface at once. And when a baby's skin reacts, something is showing there about the way this small being experiences its new surroundings.
