Radiation destroys from within. It penetrates without you seeing, smelling, or hearing it. It attacks the cells that divide most quickly — blood, mucous membranes, bone marrow. Everything in you that grows and renews itself is hit. Medically, radiation sickness is the result of an overdose of ionising radiation that damages tissue faster than the body can repair.
But the psychosomatic perspective asks more deeply: what happens in a person whose body behaves as though it is being systematically extinguished by an invisible force? As though someone has decided that growth, renewal, life force — everything that presses forward — is not allowed to exist?
Radiation sickness is the body image of a person who has internalised that every form of flourishing is forbidden to them.
