Your neck is the hinge between head and body. Between thinking and feeling. Between what you want to survey and what carries you. It is slender, mobile, sensitive — and every day it performs work you barely notice: it carries a weight of around five kilograms, allows you to look around, to nod, to lower your head, to raise it. It gives your gaze its range.
When the neck becomes stiff, exactly that is lost. You can no longer turn. You see only straight ahead. The head becomes an immovable lookout on a frozen mast. What is happening outside to your right or left you have to guess, because you can no longer perceive it without turning your whole upper body. And this physical image is no coincidence. It describes precisely what is happening inwardly right now.
