Rigidity and Stiffness
12 min read
Also known as: rigidity · rigour · stiffness · joint stiffness · stiff body · immobility · muscle rigidity · morning stiffness
Your Body Is Speaking
You move with difficulty. Getting up in the morning takes a run-up, turning your head pulls, bending over feels like a negotiation with your own body. Joints that should glide creak. Muscles that could be soft are hard as wood. It is not the acute pain of a specific injury site, but something more encompassing: an immobility that runs through the entire body, as though it has frozen inwardly into something it can no longer put down.
Medically there are many explanations for this kind of general stiffness — tension, arthrosis, rheumatic processes, fascial adhesions, a nervous system running permanently in alarm mode. All of that is real and deserves attention. Yet if you look honestly, you will often find: the physical stiffness is merely the visible surface of something deeper. Your body did not suddenly become rigid. Over years, you taught yourself not to flow.
