Your period comes — and it comes in a flood. Not the normal measure, but an inundation. Pads or tampons are not enough; changing every hour becomes routine, and then there are the clots — dark blood clots, fragments of lining, pieces your body is expelling as though trying to rid itself of something by force. The exhaustion that follows is not only physical. It feels as though something inside you has surrendered.

Medically, this is called menorrhagia — an excessively heavy or prolonged menstrual bleed. The causes can be hormonal, organic, structural. That needs to be evaluated. Always. But when the gynecological examination provides no sufficient explanation — or when you sense that something else is resonating beneath the surface — then it is worth looking at what lies underneath.
