Your Body Is Speaking

You catch a glimpse of it out of the corner of your eye — and your entire body reacts before your mind has even registered what you're actually seeing. Your heart stumbles. Your skin pulls tight. A cold shiver runs down your spine. Sometimes you cry out, sometimes you freeze, sometimes you flee the room and slam the door behind you as though something life-threatening had just come for you.

Rationally, you know: most spiders in central Europe are harmless. They are smaller than your little finger, they have no interest in you, they usually run from you — not the other way around. You've heard this a hundred times. You know it. And it doesn't help at all. Because the fear sits deeper than any argument. It lives on a level your reason cannot reach.
