Gambling Addiction

It starts harmlessly. A game, a bet, a brief moment in which everything else disappears. Your heart beats faster, your breathing becomes shallow, time stretches. For a few minutes — or hours — you are no longer the person you are on a Monday morning. You are someone who could achieve something great. A hit. A win. A miracle. And then comes the next bet. And the next. And at some point you sit there and realise that you are no longer playing voluntarily. You play because you cannot do otherwise.
