Medically, sinusitis is an inflammation of the paranasal sinuses. Mucous membranes swell, secretion backs up, ventilation stalls. But that is only the physical side of the story. The other question is: why these particular cavities? Why the centre of your face? Why, of all places, the place where you breathe, smell, speak — the place with which you present yourself to the world?
