Sensory-Motor Integration Syndrome

Imagine standing in a room where twenty radios are playing at the same time. Each on a different station. Each at a different volume. You cannot make out a single sentence, cannot recognise a single song — everything blurs into a humming, buzzing confusion. That is precisely what sensory-motor integration syndrome feels like. The world sends unceasing stimuli — light, sounds, touch, movement — and your system cannot sort them, cannot order them, cannot assemble them into a coherent picture.

Medically speaking, this is a disorder of sensory processing that typically becomes visible in infancy or childhood. The sensory impressions arrive, but they are not properly linked together. The child cannot respond appropriately to its environment, because the signals contradict one another, overlap, and cancel each other out.
