Your Body Is Speaking

Your optic nerve is inflamed. The channel that carries the images from your eyes to your brain becomes the scene of a fire you cannot extinguish. Colours fade, contours blur, sometimes sight in one eye fails entirely. It hurts — a dull pressure behind the eye that intensifies with movement. Medically, this is known as optic neuritis, an inflammatory disease of the optic nerve that can have various neurological causes.

But there is a level beyond neurology that asks a different question: What are you trying with all your might to see — and why does it elude you? What are you fixating on with an intensity that literally burns the nerve?
