Sweaty Feet

Your Body Is Speaking

Your feet sweat. Not after a marathon, not after hours in tight shoes — they sweat when you're sitting at your desk. When you get up in the morning. When you are simply there. The socks are damp, the shoes become a problem, and at some point the whole thing turns embarrassing. You change socks, try sprays, avoid open shoes, and still: your feet refuse to stop being wet.

Medically, excessive foot sweating — plantar hyperhidrosis — is an overreaction of the sympathetic nervous system. The sweat glands on the soles of the feet work at full capacity without any discernible cause. No fever, no heat, no exertion. The body sweats as though danger were imminent.

And right here is where it gets interesting. Because sweat is the language of fear. Your body is reacting as though you were standing on unstable ground — in the truest sense of the word.
