Schizophrenia

The world suddenly looks different. Voices that no one else hears. Meanings that reveal themselves in ordinary things — in a glance, in a news item, in a chance touch. Thoughts that feel as though they do not come from you. Things connecting where others see no connection. Sometimes the perception is so sharp it hurts. Sometimes so alien that you no longer recognise yourself.

Psychiatry describes schizophrenia as a severe illness with altered perception, thought disorders, hallucinations, and delusional experience. It names explanations: neurobiological processes, genetic factors, environmental stressors, early trauma. All of this is real. All of it deserves serious attention. Medication can offer stability. Therapy can create a space in which the experiences can be sorted. None of this should this text diminish.
