Thyroid Inflammation

Your thyroid is small. It sits at the front of your throat, butterfly-shaped, like a delicate organ standing watch. And yet it sets the pace for your entire life — how fast your cells work, how warm your body is, how clear your head, how awake your mood, how strong your voice. Now it is inflamed. It burns, it swells, it malfunctions — sometimes overactive, sometimes underactive, sometimes both in turn. Often your own immune system attacks it, as in Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Your body is waging war against its own pacemaker organ.
