Torticollis

11 min read

Also known as: Torticollis · wryneck · twisted neck · crooked neck · neck torsion · unilateral neck tension · muscular torticollis · congenital torticollis · Torticollis spasmodicus · neck misalignment

Your Body Is Speaking

Your head no longer wants to face forward. It pulls to the side, as though something is pressing it in one direction you cannot resist. The muscles on one side of your neck are hard as a taut rope, the other side stretches far too long. Every turn hurts. Every attempt to bring the head back to centre ends at a boundary your will cannot cross.

The throat is the bridge between head and body. Through it flows everything — blood, breath, nerves, voice. It is also the pivot joint of your perception. It allows you to look around, to change perspectives, to glance left and right, forward and back. The throat has become mobility — orientation-capacity made flesh. When it stiffens on one side, the orientation toward that side is cut off. Your gaze is forced to avoid something.
