Regurgitation

Something is coming back up. Without warning, without retching, without the dramatic spectacle of vomiting. Simply back. What was just swallowed — food, liquid, sometimes only bitter stomach acid — suddenly finds its way backward, all the way to the mouth. Sometimes during the day, sometimes at night during sleep, when you wake because something is burning in your throat or arrives in your airway and you choke.
