Your Body Is Speaking
The pharynx is the space you never see — and yet use constantly. It lies behind your mouth, behind your tongue, in the darkness between head and chest. A dim hollow, a crossroads. Here two lifelines meet: the breath that flows in and out, and the food that moves from the mouth toward the stomach. No other place in your body carries this double responsibility — air and bread, spirit and matter, run through the same narrow passage.
When the pharynx makes itself known, it does so quietly at first. A scratchiness when swallowing. A burning, as though sand lay on the mucous membrane. The feeling of having a lump when there is nothing there. A dull pressure, a tightness, a pain that wanders. You clear your throat, you drink, you try to swallow — and notice how something does not pass. Neither inward nor outward.
