Phonetic Sound Disorder

You see a word — and the letters stay silent. No sound rises up, no sound connects with the symbol on the page. Others seem to do this effortlessly: they see a "d" and immediately know how it sounds. You see the same symbol and stand before a wall. Not because you are stupid, not because you lack intelligence, but because something in your system never fully built the bridge between the visible and the audible.

Medically, this is classified as a disorder of phonological awareness — the ability to break sounds into their components and assign them to symbols is impaired. But this description stays at the surface. It tells you what doesn't work. It doesn't tell you why.

The psychosomatic perspective goes deeper. It asks: What happened in your life that the abstract never found a safe place? Why did your system not invest energy into symbolic thinking — but into something else instead?
