Your Body Is Speaking

The plague. The word alone carries the weight of centuries. Few other diseases have burned themselves so deeply into the collective memory of humanity. Entire cities that emptied out. Mass graves. The black shadow that spared no one. For many generations, the plague was the face of the uncontrollable — an event against which no prayer, no flight, no knowledge helped. It became the very embodiment of what overwhelms a person before they can even understand what is happening to them.

Today, the plague is no longer a death sentence in medical terms. It is caused by the bacterium Yersinia pestis, now occurs in only a few regions worldwide, and can be reliably treated with antibiotics if recognised in time. Left untreated, however, it runs a dramatic and often fatal course — fever, swollen lymph nodes, sepsis, lung involvement. It is a medical emergency that requires immediate action.
