Kidney Stones

A kidney stone often makes itself known without warning — and then with a force that pushes everything else into the background. When it begins to move, a sharp, wave-like pain pulls from the flank into the lower abdomen. Nausea, sweating, the feeling that it cannot be endured. Medically, a kidney stone forms when dissolved minerals in the urine crystallise and combine into a solid mass. Something that should be fluid becomes solid. Something that should flow becomes rigid.

And right here begins the deeper question: what is becoming rigid inside you? What has stopped flowing — long before your body transformed it into stone?
