Near-Death Experience

There is a moment in which everything changes. An accident, a cardiac arrest, an operation, a serious illness — and suddenly you are standing at a threshold you had never imagined so close before. Perhaps you remember light. Perhaps a vastness that had nothing to do with the walls of the hospital room. Perhaps a feeling of deep calm, so foreign as another continent — and at the same time familiar, as if you had come home. Perhaps you remember nothing concrete at all, only that you were not the same person afterward.
