Murder Victim

What comes now is perhaps the most difficult text in this entire collection. It concerns people who lost their lives through another person's violence. And it raises the question of whether even in so brutal an event an inner dimension becomes visible — beyond guilt, beyond coincidence, beyond simple explanations.

One thing first, and this is non-negotiable: murder is a crime. Responsibility lies with the perpetrator. No victim "deserved," "attracted," or "ordered" their death. Any interpretation that places on the victim the burden that belongs to the perpetrator is not only wrong — it is cruel.
