Measles

Measles begin like a severe cold — fever, cough, sensitivity to light, a general feeling of illness that takes hold of the whole body. Then comes the rash: red spots spreading from the face across the body, marking the skin, making the child visibly ill. Medically, the measles virus is highly contagious, and the disease can bring serious complications. That is important to know. And at the same time a deeper question arises: why does it strike this child, in this moment? What has prepared the inner ground on which the virus could take root?
