Your Body Is Speaking

The centre of your visual field is disappearing. Not all at once — gradually, almost imperceptibly. What you look at directly becomes blurred, distorted, eventually dark. The edges remain. You can still see what is happening around you. But what you direct your gaze at — a face, a word, a detail — loses its contour. Medically, macular degeneration affects the yellow spot, that tiny area of the retina responsible for sharp, conscious seeing. Without it, recognition no longer functions. You can still see — but you can no longer recognise.

Viewed psychosomatically, an uncomfortable question arises: What if the blurring of your sight is not only happening in your eyes? What if it is a mirror for the fact that you have not been truly looking for a long time — not at the life that lies directly before you? That you have lost focus on what is essential, perhaps already for years?
