Illness

Something inside you is no longer functioning. Perhaps it is a pain that will not go away. Perhaps an exhaustion you cannot explain. Perhaps a diagnosis that stands in your life like a verdict. Whatever it looks like — your body is telling you: this cannot continue.

The usual question is: what is broken? Which pathogen, which organ, which cell? This question matters, and medicine has developed great skill in answering it. But it is not the only question. There is another, equally decisive one: what is this body speaking of when it falls ill? What does this being-ill show you that you perhaps did not yet want to see?
