Seizures

It begins without warning. Your body takes command — completely, radically, without negotiation. The muscles contract or fling themselves outward, the ground beneath you disappears, consciousness clouds or cuts out. For seconds or minutes you are no longer master of your own body. You are a spectator of an upheaval you did not want and cannot stop.

Medically, seizures are an uncontrolled discharge of nerve impulses in the brain — an electrical storm that overrides normal regulation. Neurology searches for foci, for triggers, for measurable causes. And rightly so. But there is a second question that is rarely asked: what is actually discharging here? What tension has accumulated that is so enormous that your entire system loses control?

Seizures are not a malfunction. They are an eruption — the moment when something that has been under pressure too long forces its way outward.
