Congenital Hip Dislocation

The diagnosis usually comes early — sometimes in the first days of life, sometimes in the first months: your child's hip is not sitting correctly. The joint that should provide stability is unstable. The femoral head finds no firm hold in the socket. What is supposed to carry cannot carry — not yet, perhaps not without help.

For parents, this is a moment that shakes the ground beneath their feet. Here is this small being, just arrived, and already something must be corrected, splinted, treated. The medical side — abduction splint, cast, sometimes surgery — is clear and important. But there is a second level that is rarely brought up: what does it reveal about the inner experience of this small person? What does a body express that cannot stand stably from the very beginning?
