Your Body Is Speaking

Your jaw clicks. It locks, slips, aches with every movement. Sometimes the joint slides out of position, and you stand there — mouth wide open, unable to chew, unable to speak, unable to close your mouth properly. Medically this is called temporomandibular dysfunction, often associated with tension in the chewing muscles, teeth grinding, or misalignment. Physiotherapy treats the joint, dentistry adjusts the splint, orthopedics searches for structural causes.

But there is a question that goes deeper: why is it precisely the joint under tension — the one built to bring your expression into the world? The jaw is the hinge between inside and outside. It opens the mouth to speak, eat, scream, kiss — or it presses it shut to hold all of that back. When this joint loses its hold, it has rarely only to do with biomechanics.

It has to do with you — with what you are not saying.
