Wrist fracture
11 min read
Also known as: wrist fracture · broken wrist · distal forearm fracture · scaphoid fracture
Your Body Is Speaking
The wrist is a marvel of small bones, tendons, and ligaments. It is the most delicate joint of your arm — that sensitive threshold connecting your hand to the rest of your body. It allows you to grip, let go, rotate, turn, deflect. Every gesture, every movement, every action in daily life flows through this small zone.
When this joint breaks, something has acted on it with force. Usually a fall — and usually a fall in which the hand instinctively reaches forward to catch the body. The wrist absorbs the impact that the rest isn't meant to bear. Medically the fracture is clearly described: bones have exceeded their load limit, structures have broken, healing takes time, immobilization, perhaps an operation. That is the visible level. But there is a second one.
