Lump in the Throat / Constricted Throat

There is something in your throat. Not a bite of food, not a swelling, nothing that would show up on an ultrasound — and yet it is unmistakably there. A pressure. A tightness. As though someone had laid a hand around your larynx and were pressing gently but relentlessly. You swallow. It recedes for a moment. Then it comes back. Medically this is called globus pharyngis — a lump-like sensation without an organic correlate. The doctors look inside, find nothing, and that is on one hand a relief and on the other hand precisely the problem: if nothing is physically there, then what is it?
