Frequent Nose-Picking

Your Body Is Speaking
It's one of those habits hardly anyone talks about openly. The hand wanders to the face as if of its own accord, the finger searches in private, and often you don't even notice until you're already doing it. Sometimes it hurts. Sometimes it bleeds. Sometimes you feel ashamed afterward and resolve not to do it again — and then do it anyway. In children it seems harmless, almost endearing. In adults it becomes a quiet taboo. Something no one should see.
Medicine calls it rhinotillexomania when it becomes compulsive. It explains it with dry mucous membranes, crusts, itching, nervous habits. All of that is true, and humidifying the air or using a salve can help. But it doesn't explain why this particular small, hidden place becomes so magnetic. Why the hand returns there again and again, even when you don't want it to. Why it feels as though something needs to come out that isn't tangible.
