Globus Sensation

There is something in your throat. No foreign body, no tumour, no swelling — the doctors have looked, everything is unremarkable. And yet: something is sitting there. A lump, a pressure, a tightness. Sometimes you feel it when swallowing, sometimes when breathing, sometimes just like that — as though something has lodged in your throat that won't go up and won't go down.

Medically this is called globus sensation — a phenomenon that millions of people know and that stubbornly resists every physical explanation. Reflux is ruled out, the thyroid is unremarkable, the ENT findings are clean. And yet the feeling remains: as though the throat is not quite free. As though something is narrowing the passage between what is inside and what wants to go outward.
