Pressure is building inside your eye. Slowly, often imperceptibly, but steadily. The aqueous humour that normally drains unimpeded backs up — and with it the pressure inside the eye rises, until it threatens the optic nerve. Medically, glaucoma is a condition in which this elevated intraocular pressure damages the most delicate instrument of your perception: your ability to see. The visual field narrows. The periphery disappears. Eventually all that remains is a narrow tunnel.
What does it mean when a body builds pressure that it can no longer let flow away? What does it mean when the field of vision narrows — not suddenly, but creeping, almost unnoticed?
