Face — Expression and Identity

Of all the body parts you have, the face is the only one you almost never see directly yourself. Others see it constantly. You see it only in the mirror, in photos, on screens — always mediated, always reversed, never in flow. And yet it is the part of you most closely tied to what you call "I." When people say "that's me," they rarely mean their hands or their back. They mean what lies between chin and hairline.

Your face is the stage on which your inner world becomes visible to others. A micromovement of the eyebrows reveals more about your state than an entire sentence. A brief twitch of the corners of the mouth determines whether a stranger reads you as open or closed. Your face works around the clock — and you have only limited control over what it shows.
