Your Body Is Speaking
Your fingers turn pale, then bluish, then red. They swell, itch, burn. The skin tightens, sometimes cracks. What should be warm and alive — your hands, your most immediate tool in the world — becomes cold, numb, painful. Medically, chilblains are an inflammatory reaction of the small blood vessels to cold and moisture. Circulation is impaired, the tissue is no longer adequately supplied.
But why the hands specifically? Why the fingers — precisely those parts of the body with which you grasp, touch, hold, shape? The question that arises from a psychosomatic perspective is not only: why does my body react so sensitively to cold? But rather: where in my life has warmth gone missing? And why does it no longer reach my outermost extremities?
