Dyscalculia (Difficulty with Numbers)

Numbers that cannot be grasped. Quantities that remain abstract. Arithmetic operations that others perform effortlessly in their heads feel like a foreign language for which you have no dictionary. Dyscalculia is first and foremost a neurological partial performance disorder — the brain processes mathematical relationships differently from most people. This is not a deficit of will and not a sign of insufficient intelligence, but a different kind of wiring.

And yet it is worth looking deeper. Not to explain away the neurological reality — but to understand what emotional patterns have formed around this particular way of being. Because dyscalculia never exists in a vacuum. It grows in a child who early on has the experience of not being able to keep up in a central area of life. And this experience leaves traces — not only in how numbers are handled, but in how you handle yourself.
