Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy

Duchenne muscular dystrophy is a severe genetic condition. It affects almost exclusively boys, and it begins early — often already in the first years of life, when other children are learning to walk and the child in question struggles to stand up at all. The muscles gradually break down. The body does not carry the way bodies normally carry. What is self-evident for others — a step, a jump, a reach, standing up — becomes a task that grows harder with every passing year.

This text is written for two readers: for the child who lives with this diagnosis, and for the parents who stand at its side. Both carry a burden that almost no one from the outside can truly measure. And both deserve to have their reality taken seriously — without false consolation, without simple explanations, without a single sentence that fails to honour the dignity of this path.
