Carbon Monoxide Poisoning

It is an invisible gas. Odourless, colourless, soundless. It enters your cells, displaces the oxygen, and you do not notice. Dizziness, headaches, nausea — and then, if it continues, loss of consciousness. The insidious nature of CO poisoning: you cannot feel yourself suffocating. Medically, carbon monoxide poisoning is an acute emergency. The gas binds to the haemoglobin in your blood, blocks oxygen transport, and the organs — above all the brain — are no longer supplied.
