It happens without warning. In a single moment, one eye loses its vision — partially or completely. No pain, no warning signal, only sudden darkness on one side. Medically it is a circulatory disturbance of the optic nerve or the retina — a vessel closes off, the tissue is no longer supplied, and sight goes out. Ophthalmology speaks of anterior ischemic optic neuropathy or retinal vascular occlusion.
Viewed psychosomatically, a different question arises: What was so unbearable to see that your body decided to shut off the gaze? What truth, what insight, what reality stood before you — and you refused to acknowledge it?
