Respiratory Failure

There is a moment when breath is no longer taken for granted. When the lungs stop doing what they have done since your birth — keeping you alive. Respiratory failure is not a gentle signal, but the point at which your body says: I cannot go on like this. Not will not — cannot.

Medically, breathing fails when the lungs can no longer maintain gas exchange. The causes are varied — infections, chronic illness, trauma. But behind the organic explanation stands a question that is rarely asked: What if your body has not only reached a physical limit — but also a deep emotional one? What if the lungs stop working because something in you has stopped wanting to live?
