An abscess on the leg is more than a localised collection of pus. Medically, a leg abscess is a contained pocket of infection in the tissue of the upper or lower leg. It can arise from a small skin defect, from an inflammation of a hair follicle, from a foreign body, sometimes seemingly out of nowhere. What the body does is clear: it builds a capsule around the inflammation to prevent it from spreading. It isolates what is under pressure.
